Here is a excellent light duty shallow water and beach scoop. The aluminum bucket has 5/8" diameter holes punched into the sides and the back of the scoop. The bucket of the sand scoop is 5" in diameter by 9" long. The 1-1/4" diameter aluminum handle is welded at 20 degrees so you can use your foot on the back of this scoop to push it into the sand. This scoop is a good balance between size and weight. It is lighter but somewhat smaller than the stainless steel scoops out there, and it is less expensive per what you get. Despite all the reviews where excruciating concern is exhibited over the hole size, my observation is that most detectorists simply use this as an efficient shovel to contain the dig from the hole and allow it to be dumped alongside the hole for further detecting. So the bottom line is that if you're walking on the beach with nothing in the scoop, then the weight savings on this will definitely help after two or three hours of detecting.
