Finding all kind of items I missed with the big coil. Any serious metal detectorist should have this coil in their arsenal!!
Went to the beach a couple of weeks ago to try the unit. Found an old religios medallion within a couple of hundred yard passes. Can't wait to try the other coils! Going to work great for our use.
Being 77 years old I am not as sharp as I used to be, so this machine was a bit intimidating at first. I have owned 4 garrett machines in the past and they were very easy to use. Basically just turn them on and start detecting. But the CTX3030 is a little different. If you have the discrimination set to full open you will be digging everything under the sun. I dug a BB at 9 inches on my first time out so I know the CTX is extremely sensitive and will pick up everything. The trick is to learn how properly read what the sound and the display are telling you. The first thing I realized was that I had to learn the menu system. While she was watching her shows I had my headphones on playing with my CTX learning the menu system. I spent about 3 or 4 hours running the menu down all the rabbit trails. By the time those two movies were over I had a very good idea where to adjust most all the setting.
I have had the CTX for over 2 weeks and have been detecting five or six times. I have been hunting the same parks I and bazillion other detectorists have hunted only this time I am finding a lot more coins than I ever expected. I know it is because the CTX is finding things deeper than before. Now that I am back from my 10 day fishing trip at Table Rock Lake I have decided study each and every menu item in detail. I have a small coin garden that I am going to expand on to include trash next to silver coins and a variety of odd ball combination to include nails, pull tabs, rusty iron all mixed in with various coins. I have two books that I am going to study. One is The CTX 3030 Handbook by Andy Sabisch and the other is A Practical Guide to Finding Gold, Silver & Coins with the MInelab CTX 3030 by Clive James Clynick. Both books were suggested by Travis at High PLains Prospectors. After ...
