The Best Outdoor Activity for Seniors to Get Physically Active - Metal Detecting

What is the best activity to for older people to get physical activity?  If you ask me, there are few better than metal detecting.  It is a low impact activity that gets you moving.  The majority of our customers are over 40 years old with the large majority of that group being over 60.  This segment of our population are frequently the same crowd that is interested in historical items, collecting coins, and other similar geeky hobbies (I can say that because I am into it too).
Metal detectorists know that walking around and digging for treasure can burn quite a few calorie calories and it can sure get your heart rate up. What is even better about the activity is that a person can spend hours walking around and digging up coins, relics, jewelry or even gold (in addition to some trash) without realizing they are even exercising!

The sport of metal detecting not only stimulates your muscles, it stimulates your brain.  You will indefinitely dig something up that piques your desire to find out exactly what it is, and when or where it originated.  This often results in a short but exciting history lesson.  Another beautiful thing about metal detecting is also an activity that can be shared with a significant other or children and grand children.  What better way to bond with your family than to have the youngins' doing all your digging for you?
