FAQ: How do I use a metal detector to find property pins/markers?

A metal detector can be an effective means of finding property markers and is usually MUCH cheaper than hiring a professional location company to come out and find the pins.

Property markers are commonly used in most municipalities to mark the legal boundaries of a platted property. They are metal pins that will typically be found at every corner of your property and any point on your property where the line changes direction (i.e. if you have sharp angle turn on your property line, there will likely be a marker placed where the new line direction starts).  The markers will usually have a colored plastic cap with a number on it and are typically only 6-10 inches deep.  Although this can vary depending on time and the amount of topsoil that was placed on the property after the pin was placed....

FAQ: What does gold come up as on a metal detector?

Once again, I figured I would do a quick blog on a question that we get quite often:  Where does gold ring up on a metal detector?

This is a tricky answer.  The reason is because gold objects, whether naturally occurring nuggets, or the various man made gold objects, range across the board on a metal detector much like you find with aluminum and other metals.  It comes in all shapes and sizes just like aluminum.  Gold, however, throws another curve ball at metal detectorists.... 

Top Three Factors For Successful Metal Detecting

For those who are new to the sport of metal detecting, there are a lot of unknowns.  Some people are super skeptical about the hobby.  They don't think there are really treasures to be found underground.  They may detect for a short period, not find anything and get discouraged.  Take it from someone who has sold THOUSANDS of metal detectors and talks to thousands of detectorists across the country, there is buried treasure out there to be found.  It happens every day.

If you are a seasoned metal detectorist, you already know what I am about to say.  If you are new at the sport, listen closely as I am about to share with you three pieces of advice that will make you a successful metal detectorist.  In my opinion, they are the three most important factors in finding treasure...other than going out frequently.
