Great Detector with a Couple Caveats

I’ve been detecting for about 15 years, and this is my 4th detector. I chose this detector because XP has a great reputation, the detector is extremely light and I often hike in to remote areas, and it seems to be very versatile. The versatility is important to be me because I use the detector regularly in several different ways.
1. Beach detecting on clean beaches
2. Beach detecting on gold mine ruins with lots of iron
3. Prospecting on creeks with a lot of iron.
4. Detecting on forest trails.

The first problem is not a problem with the detector, it is a problem with the ad for the detector. The first thing it says under “ORX Key Features” is “Elliptical” and the photo in the ad is of the detector with the elliptical coil. Because I detect in areas with lots of iron, and I prospect in places with very small gold, I was excited about the elliptical coil because of the shape and the higher max frequency. The detector actually comes with the high frequency round coil. Be aware of that when ordering the detector this review is attached to.

The second issue I have is with how chirpy this detector is on salt water beach. I’m new to XP detectors; I started out with the Tesoro compadre, and moved on to Minelab, so I accept that the chirpiness I’m experiencing is likely due to a combination of inexperience with the machine and the higher frequencies used by the HF coil. This is not a reason to avoid the detector by any means, just something to be aware of when purchasing. It will take a little getting used to at the beach.
With those caveats out of the way, the detector itself, I love. It’s extremely light and comfortable, it packs down smaller than any detector I’ve seen. The quality of design and construction are second to none. I’ve seen comparisons to the deus, and there are definitely some control options I wish the ORX had, but at it’s price point, I think the value of the ORX is
