This scoop is a good balance between size and weight. It is lighter but somewhat smaller than the stainless steel scoops out there, and it is less expensive per what you get. Despite all the reviews where excruciating concern is exhibited over the hole size, my observation is that most detectorists simply use this as an efficient shovel to contain the dig from the hole and allow it to be dumped alongside the hole for further detecting. So the bottom line is that if you're walking on the beach with nothing in the scoop, then the weight savings on this will definitely help after two or three hours of detecting.
